What this site is

Active Layer Resources (this site) publishes AI news, blog posts, articles, and downloadable guides. Content is managed in Sanity, a third-party CMS; Sanity does not receive any data about you as a reader — it only serves the article content itself.

Data controller

Active Layer Studio is the data controller responsible for this site and for the limited processing described below. For any privacy question, correction, or rights request, use the contact details at the bottom of this page.

Cookies and local storage

Essential browser storage remembers your cookie choice — this is strictly necessary and doesn't require consent under EU/UK cookie law. Optional analytics and advertising cookies are not loaded unless you accept them through the cookie preferences prompt, and you can withdraw that consent at any time by clearing your browser storage for this site or revisiting the prompt.

Analytics

When you accept analytics, we use Google Analytics to understand aggregate traffic (pages viewed, referring sites, approximate location). This data is not tied to your name or used to identify you individually.

Advertising

This site shows ads served by Google AdSense, and occasionally direct sponsor placements. Google and its partners may use cookies and device identifiers to serve and measure ads; see Google's advertising policy for how that data is used and how to opt out of personalized ads. Sponsor placements link out to third-party advertisers we do not control.

Data we don't sell

We do not sell personal data. We don't operate contact or newsletter forms on this site, so we don't collect information you submit here beyond the anonymous analytics above.

Legal basis for processing (EU/UK GDPR)

If you're located in the European Economic Area, the UK, or Switzerland, our legal basis for optional analytics and advertising cookies is your consent, given through the cookie preferences prompt — nothing optional loads before you accept. Essential storage (your cookie choice itself) is processed under our legitimate interest in remembering that choice, as permitted under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR and the ePrivacy Directive.

Your rights under GDPR

If GDPR or UK GDPR applies to you, you have the right to: access the limited data we hold; request correction or erasure of it; restrict or object to its processing; request a portable copy where technically feasible; and withdraw consent at any time without affecting processing that already took place. Because we don't operate accounts or forms, most of these rights concern analytics and advertising identifiers set by Google on our behalf — see the Advertising and Analytics sections above for how to opt out directly. You can also lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority (in Ireland, the Data Protection Commission, since Google's EU operations are based there) at any time.

International data transfers

Google Analytics and Google AdSense may transfer data outside the EEA/UK, including to the United States, to operate their services. Google self-certifies under the EU-U.S. and UK-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and relies on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses for transfers where the Framework doesn't apply. We don't operate our own servers outside your region beyond what these providers and our hosting provider require to serve the site.

Other regions

Depending on where you live, you may have similar statutory rights under other privacy laws — for example California's CCPA/CPRA (right to know, delete, and opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information, which we interpret to include AdSense's ad personalization; you can opt out via the Advertising section above), Brazil's LGPD, Canada's PIPEDA, or similar frameworks elsewhere. We apply the same practices — consent-gated optional cookies, no data sales, no forms collecting personal data — regardless of where you're visiting from, so exercising any of these rights works the same way: contact us using the details below.

Children's privacy

This site is not directed at children and we don't knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us data through third-party analytics or advertising cookies, contact us and we'll work with the relevant provider to address it.

Changes to this policy

We'll update the date at the top of this page when this policy changes. Material changes — such as adding a new data collection practice — will also be reflected in the relevant section above.
